JOANNA MANOUSIS

Women in Bottles, 2007
Blown glass, paradise paint, graal technique
40cm x 16cm x 16cm

My work focuses on the combination of 2 dimensional imagery with 3 dimensional form, giving kiln cast and blown glass sculpture both physical depth and narrative. I am interested in translating the fragility of glass as a medium, creating literary objects that often hold reference to my own memories and childhood. Within recent works, however, I have been focusing on a present day melancholy and revival of kitsch 1950s iconography. The humorous stereotypes of the domestic housewife that often hold a lighthearted, satirical overtone within society today.
